A three day Community Writers' Workshop cum Exhibition of traditional literature of Manipur organized by the Manipur State Museum under the aegis of the National Museum of Mankind, Bhopal has been opened today at the auditorium of the former.
Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof Hijam Tombi Singh and Padmashree N Khelchandra graced the inaugural function as chief guest and president respectively.
Renowned Manipuri woman writer MK Binodini and Ng Kulachandra, Pandit Achouba, Sanakonung also attended the inaugural function as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof H Tombi has stressed the need of studying the traditional literature of Manipur.
The people of Manipur should also know their own identity and culture, he said.
In her speech, MK Binodini has emphasized that Manipuris now need to know their origin and ethnicity after the ceasefire turmoil in the State.
She regretted that most of the Manipuri youngsters have little knowledge about their history and origin.
"It is high time for us to know 'who were we?', 'Who are we now?' and 'What should we be?'", she said mentioning the importance of considering these factors for making a new Manipur.
H Kulachandra also spoke at the function.
